Roles and Goals
I am continuing to work with the Lamoille Union Board and superintendent
to help them create a strategic vision and goals for their district.
Strategic
Planning
The Caledonia Central Supervisory Union
strategic planning process continues in Walden,
Danville, and Barnet. VSBA consultant Marty Jacobs is leading the planning
process that precedes hosting community forums.
I am facilitating forums in all three towns this month. The goal is to create awareness about the
needs for education and to gather feedback from school and community
stakeholders that will inform the creation of a strategic plan by the school
board.
The VSBA is starting similar strategic
planning processes with Georgia and Springfield school leaders this month.
The VSBA will complete the Hartland/Hartford and Pittsfield
phase I governance studies this month.
I continue to work with Whitingham and Wilmington
(Twin Valley Joint Contract School) as they focus on a facilities bond vote in
March 2009.
Laura Soares is working on behalf of the VSBA
to assist a Washington Northeast committee to study options
related to superintendent services and possible alternative governance configurations.
Policy
Governance
Laura Soares continues to facilitate a Policy
Governance implementation process with the Hartford
School District and is working with Robin Scheu to do the same for the entire Orange Southwest Supervisory Union.
Val Gardner continues to work on behalf of
the VSBA to facilitate implementation of Policy Governance for the Essex Town School Board.
Laura and I presented multiple governance
options to the Chittenden Central
Supervisory Union Board. Included in
this work was information about Greenleaf Servant Leadership, NSBA Key Work of
the Board, VSBA Board Standards, and the Iowa Lighthouse student achievement
initiative. The SU Board is considering
a possible transition to a Policy Governance system.
Laura also presented information to the South Burlington Board about the
Policy Governance process.
Other district leaders continue to express
interest in implementing Policy Governance.
Superintendent
Searches
The VSBA will soon begin working with the Rutland Southwest and Windham Central Supervisory Unions and
is providing resources and support for the Washington West, Windsor
Southwest, and Washington Northeast
superintendent search processes.
Searches are already underway in Southwest Vermont and Franklin Northeast.
