Governance Initiatives
Laura Soares has completed the draft phase I governance study report for Underhill, Underhill I.D., and Jericho School Districts. Working with Holden Waterman, I have prepared a similar draft phase I governance study report for Hartland and Hartford. Work continues in Whitingham and Wilmington as they focus on a facilities bond vote in March 2009.
I began working with the Pittsfield governance study committee. Ray Proulx has been contracted to provide the majority of research and develop findings and recommendations for the study.
Policy Governance
Laura Soares continues to facilitate a Policy Governance implementation process with the Hartford School District and is working with Robin Scheu to do the same for the entire Orange Southwest Supervisory Union. Laura was invited to present the PG concept to the Essex Jct. Prudential Board.
Valerie Gardner will be helping the Essex Town School Board to implement Policy Governance in that PK-8 district.
Superintendent Searches
The VSBA contracted superintendent searches in Southwest Vermont, Washington West, Franklin Central, and Rutland Southwest Supervisory Unions. Three of the four districts could not find candidates that were a good match for their employment needs and hired interim superintendents.
The VSBA is currently providing support for the Essex North Supervisory Union to hire an interim superintendent.
The VSBA facilitated a principal search for the Hyde Park Elementary Board.
Workshops
I presented 3Rs workshops for the Orange North SU, Bennington Elementary, Rockingham Elementary, Bellows Falls Union High School, and on Vermont Interactive TV; also a workshop on Dealing with Difficult People to administrative assistants at the spring VSA Conference. I continue to consult with the Kindle Farm Board and facilitated a goal setting session with school leaders in the Caledonia North SU.
