    Overview: : The Curriculum Development process connects the student needs defined in the assessment system with the professionals who are charged with delivering instruction. Allocation of resources and design of professional development programs should assure equity of curriculum resources across the system.

    • What is our policy on curriculum development and coordination?

    • How do we know what the right curriculum is to prepare students for the 21st century?
    • Does our curriculum address diverse racial, cultural, and gender-related issues and needs?

    Tasks to Consider
    • Review required policy in curriculum development and coordination, as well as other related policies.
    • Request periodic updates on progress in curriculum development and coordination.
    • Review extra curricular offerings.
    • Examine and adopt curriculum when presented to the board.
    • Review budget to ensure adequate resources available to support curriculum development.
    • Discuss the role of the community in curriculum development.
    • Review policies and procedures to determine roles and responsibilities of the superintendent.
    • Compare procedures with policy requirements.
    • Review and establish clear procedures, roles, and expectations for the development and coordination of curricular initiatives.
    • Follow-up recent accomplishments and create site-maps linking curricular activities and initiatives.
    • Meet with the superintendent to learn about the coordination of curriculum throughout the district.
    • Review all existing curriculum documents.
    • Create/Implement curriculum development and review procedures.
    • Determine student needs and interests in extracurricular activities.
