Superintendent and Board Officers
The relationship between the school board and superintendent is a critical element in the success of an educational system. It’s especially important for the board officers and the superintendent to work as a team moving the district and supervisory union toward its vision. The legislature recognized the importance of this partnership by implementing V.S.A. §561(b) which stipulates that school board chairs and superintendents “shall jointly participate in at least eight hours of professional training” annually. VSBA works with the Vermont Superintendents Association to offer an event that delves into topics identified in the statute: educational leadership; roles and responsibilities of supervisory union boards, district boards, and superintendents; open meeting law; public records law; collective bargaining; and education funding and school finance laws. VSBA invites all board officers to participate in this instructive training which is also a great opportunity to network with other education leaders from around the state.
In 2023, this 6 hour in-person training will be held on May 17 at the Burlington Hilton. To complete the required 8 hour annual training we will offer a pre conference webinar on May 10 from 3:00 until 4:00 and a post conference webinar on May 24 from 3:00 until 4:00.
