2023 VSBA/VSA Annual School Board Officer
& Superintendent Training

May 10 via Zoom
May 17 @ Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain

The relationship between the school board and superintendent is a critical element in the success of an educational system. It’s especially important for the board officers and the superintendent to work as a team moving the district and supervisory union toward its vision. The legislature recognized the importance of this partnership by implementing 16 V.S.A. §561(b) which stipulates that school board chairs and superintendents “shall jointly participate in at least eight hours of professional training” annually. The Vermont School Boards Association and the Vermont Superintendents Association work together to offer an event that delves into topics identified in the statute: educational leadership; roles and responsibilities of supervisory union boards, district boards, and superintendents; open meeting law; public records law; collective bargaining; and education funding and school finance laws. VSBA and VSA invite all board officers to participate in this instructive training which is also a great opportunity to network with other education leaders from around the state.

In 2023, the 8-hour annual training will take place in two parts:

  1. A pre-webinar on May 10 from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

  2. An in-person training on May 17 from 12:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain

The cost to participate is $175 per person. Registration will remain open until April 30, 2023. You will be assessed a cancellation fee of $100 after the April 30th deadline. Please register for all three parts of the training at the link below. Virtual access to the webinars will be sent to each person that registers.
