Policy Governance® Virtual Forum

The VSBA is excited to announce a year-long board development opportunity for Vermont school districts that have officially adopted and are actively using Policy Governance®. There will be eight 1-hour online workshops for school boards and their superintendents. The registration fee is inclusive of the eight sessions for all board members, including any new board member who is elected or appointed before May 2026. However, in order to benefit from this forum, it is strongly recommended that new members complete the Board EXCELerator to gain the foundational knowledge of Policy Governance®. 

 

Format/Structure

Prior to each session, participants will be prompted in an email reminder to provide any issues or questions they would like to cover at the upcoming session. It could be a question about a board-specific challenge or a more general question about Policy Governance®. Each session will offer prepared material on a specific topic and an opportunity for discussion on topics of interest.  After each session, a follow up email with all materials used or referenced will be sent.

 

Schedule of Dates

The forum will be held on Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm. during the months of September, October, December, January, February, March, April and May.

Jeanne Collins Deweese

Policy Governance® Trainer | Executive Leadership Coach | Education Advocate

 

Jeanne Collins Deweese brings more than 40 years of distinguished experience in education, including 17 years as a superintendent in Vermont, to her work as a Policy Governance® trainer and executive coach. Her direct experience leading three school boards within a supervisory union that fully embraced Policy Governance has profoundly shaped her leadership philosophy and practice.

 

Collins Deweese received her initial Policy Governance® training from Miriam Carver, co-creator of the model, and later completed advanced certification with Susan Mogensen of Brown Dog Consulting. Her approach blends deep practical understanding with formal expertise, making her a highly effective resource for boards and superintendents transitioning to—or refining—their use of Policy Governance®.

 

Through her work with the Vermont School Boards Association (VSBA), Jeanne has guided numerous school boards across Vermont in implementing and sustaining Policy Governance® principles. She is recognized for her clarity, commitment to board-superintendent partnership, and ability to translate governance theory into actionable practice.

 

Cost

The fee for the year-long program per governance team (all board members and the superintendent) is $450 per district.
